The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has official launched and opened the Election Analysis Centre (EAC), a one-stop-shop for rigorous analysis of the 2019 general elections.
According to the Director if the CDD, Idayat Hassan, the initiative is driven by the Center’s quest to provide accurate and rela-time analysis of events in the build-up to the polls, election day and post-election period in a more captivating, enriching and systematic manner.
While speaking at the launching on Thursday in Abuja, Hassan noted that through the analysis centre, CDD would provide informed analysis grounded in historical facts and data spanning 1999-2015 general elections inclusive of off-cycle polls in the country.
“This is the formal opening of our Election Analysis Centre. It is to instill confident on electoral process. So we are monitoring and analyzing the elections and we are informing Nigerians what is happening during the elections.
“I advised Nigerians to be peaceful, maintain peace and go out and cast their vote” She stressed.
In his goodwill message, the representative of the United States embassy in Nigeria, David Young commanded CDD for its effort in combating fake news.
According to Young, both fake news and hate speech are worrisome phenomenon of recent time and assured US support in combating all forms of fake news that get reported.
“We are your partners and we want to support Nigeria. The CSOs played a critical role in the society especially in these forthcoming 2019 elections.
“Both fake news and hate speech is a worrisome phenomenon of our recent time. We want to combat and support you in combating all forms of fake news that get reported.
Also in his goodwill message, the Australian High Commission to Nigeria, Mr. Philip Baker commended the role of the CDD and the CSOs actors in bringing out credible elections monitoring analysis centre.
He maintained that Australian Embassy stand in condemn of the hate speech and to join hands to give every Nigerians free, fair and creditable 2019 election through monitoring to ensure there is no fake news and hate speech.
