The allegations that the various allocations received by stated from the Federation Account are being mismanaged came to the fore following photographs of a secondary school in Rivers State posted by a resident of one of the local government areas of the state.
Rivers State is one of the three states that get the highest allocation from the Federation Account and it also gets out of the 13% Derivation, being an oil producing state.
However, despite getting the allocation running into billions of naira, both the state and local government areas seem not bothered about the condition of infrastructure used by the residents.
A resident of the state, whose X handle is Oba of PH, on Sunday posted the condition of a secondary school in one of the local government areas of the state, saying many schools in the local government are in dilapidated conditions.
According to him, the school, Okoroagu Community Secondary School, Okoroagu, Etche Local Government Area of the state, is in such a terrible condition that the wood from the roof in one of the classrooms fell on a student who got injured.
The man said the classrooms don’t have windows while the students are at the mercy of the weather because the roofs leak whenever it rains as they used to move towards particular sides in order not to become wet.
He wrote: “This is the condition in which the students learn every day. This is the condition of most of the primary and secondary schools in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas.
“We, the good people of Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas would be very grateful for your timely intervention, as education is key to enhancing community development.”
The man therefore urged the state government to urgently consider the plight of the students as well as residents of the area.
