There was drama on Saturday in the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its executive disowned individuals who were mobilising for the presidential ambition of Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
There were reports during the week that chieftains of the party, including Mrs Lanre Fajuyi and Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, announced the commencement of mobilisation of PDP and APM members in the state for Makinde’s presidential ambition.
However, the party leadership in the state, including the Chairman, Lanre Omolase, disclosed on Saturday that the individuals who were embarking on the mobilisation were on their own, adding that the PDP in the state would not support any “treachery which is what the Oyo State governor represents.”
The party leadership, in a statement said:, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP hereby distances itself completely from both the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Governor Seyi Makinde. No such mobilisation has been authorised, inaugurated or undertaken by the Ekiti State PDP leadership.
“Most importantly, Governor Seyi Makinde has never stopped demonstrating treachery and we in the PDP in Ekiti State will not have anything to do with such a character who is only stable in betrayal.
“The party therefore urges members, supporters and the general public to disregard the move and treat any claim purporting to speak for the Ekiti State PDP without authorisation from its recognised leadership as a product of speculation and political mischief.”
The party leaders in the state also warned individuals and groups against appropriating the name, structure or authority of the Ekiti PDP to advance personal political interests.
