In a case that defies all understanding, a man has been arrested by men of the Adamawa State Police Command for attempting to sell his 18-year-old niece after luring her with a fake Abuja job offer.

The man, James Andrawus, was said to have told the daughter of his sister that he wanted to take her to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as he said he had got a job for her.

The command added that the excited teenager packed her bag and followed him but instead of taking her to Abuja, he was said to have taken her to Ganye where he reportedly attempted to sell her for the sum of N7 million.

The parents of the girl were said to have become worried over the whereabouts of their daughter and reported the matter at the police station.

The police began investigation which led to the arrest of the man and the rescue of the girl. During his interrogation, the girl’s uncle was said to have confessed carrying out the act and the attempt to sell her.

It was gathered that following the completion of investigation, the man was on Friday, August 28, arraigned before Chief Magistrates’ Court 2, Yola, on charges relating to abduction and buying or selling of persons for immoral purposes.

The court ordered that the man be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) while the case was adjourned.
