A driver who absconded with the vehicle of his boss after dropping her at a church in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has been arrested with the car in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, by men of the state police command.

The theft of the car was reported on July 5 by the owner, one Mrs. Remilekun of Oba-Ile who told the police that she employed the man, Adesola Ogunrotifa, aged 40 years, as her personal driver in July last year.

According to her, last Sunday, the man drove her to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a service, adding that after dropping her, he absconded with her Hyundai car to an unknown destination.

Following the report however, the command immediately launched an investigation into the matter.

Acting on an intelligence report gathered, a team of detectives from B-Division, Akure tracked the driver to a location in Abuja where he was arrested and the car was recovered from him.

During his interrogation, he was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and after the conclusion of the investigation, he was charged to court where he was remanded in prison.

The state police command has, in recent times, been grappling with the activities of drivers who steal and abscond with the vehicles of their bosses. Some of the stolen vehicles are disposed off at ridiculous prices before the long arm of the law caught the culprits.
