A former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Alhassan Bawa Niworo, on Thursday spent his 73rd day in kidnappers den and there is no indication that he will be released soon.
This is because after the family members had paid a ransom of N30 million to secure his release, the kidnappers have refused to release him, demanding for additional N120 million before he can regain his freedom.
A competent source close to the man’s family told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday night that all efforts to get the 70-year-old man released from the den of kidnappers proved abortive, as they added that there is no way they could raise N120 million demanded by the abductors
It was gathered that the former SUBEB boss was abducted early in September along the New Bussa-Mokwa Road and have kept him in their den since then.
The family members are also said to have expressed concern that despite being a former senior official in the state, the state government seems not interested in the matter as no official in the state has made any contact with them regarding his stay with the abductors for 73 days.
The source added that the family has continued to negotiate with the kidnappers, urging them to reduce the ransom demanded.
