A female member of a kidnapping gang has been arrested in Anambra State after members of the gang abducted a resident in his Toyota Highlander, took his phone and transferred the sum of N24 million from his account.
The state police command announced the development in a statement on Wednesday morning, saying she was arrested during a gun duel with the operatives who eventually rescued the man and recovered the vehicle.
It was gathered that the operatives attached to the 33 Police Station, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, in the early hours of October 27 arrested the lady, Okonkwo Onyinye, aged 23 years, following a kidnapping incident in Ogidi reported at the station.
According to information, the victim was double-crossed by five kidnappers operating in a Toyota Corolla at Nkwelle GRA Gate.
They forcefully bundled the man in the boot of his vehicle and drove off to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his phone and transferred the sum of ₦24 million from his account before abandoning him and escaping with the vehicle.
“Following the report, the Joint Security Team, acting on technologically-driven intelligence, traced the movement of the suspects to Nawfia and subsequently to Ogidi, where the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel before fleeing the scene,” the command wrote.
While other members of the gang fled in different directions, the police operatives succeeded in arresting the female member of the gang and she was said to be giving more useful information regarding the activities of the gang.
The rescued victim has been reunited with his family while the lady is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
