Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared an all-out war on the state government.
His outbursts followed the recent call by the state government for his arrest over comments he was said to have made on the establishment of a militia group.
Ganduje, while spitting fire over the call, described it as “reckless, baseless, and a sign of incompetence.”
It will be recalled that the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, through the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, at a press conference said the government was disappointed by what it termed an “inflammatory remark by former Governor Ganduje,”
The governor called for his arrest and a probe by security agencies over the allegation that Ganduje was planning to established 12,000 Hisbah operatives.
However, in a statement by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, the former governor said the arrest call reflected what he described as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s “desperation” and “abdication of responsibility,” accusing the governor of failing to address the security challenges confronting the state.
“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” Ganduje said.
He noted that communities in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and other affected areas continue to live in fear, alleging that the governor has neither visited nor shown empathy to victims of recent attacks.
According to the former governor, his administration maintained peace and stability throughout his eight-year tenure, earning national commendation, a record he said stands “in stark contrast to the current administration’s ineptitude and lack of direction.”
Ganduje insisted he has never been associated with violence or linked to actions capable of destabilizing Kano State.
He urged Governor Yusuf to focus on delivering his constitutional duty of safeguarding residents rather than engaging in “political theatrics and unfounded allegations.”
