Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is standing trial on charges of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation before the Federal High Court in Abuja, has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, was aware of his appointment.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Adeyemi said he was confident the court would vindicate him and maintained that he had committed no offence.
“I have a letter of appointment,” he said, but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing court proceedings.
Adeyemi also dismissed allegations that he had been evading law enforcement, saying he had always been willing to submit himself to the judicial process.
He further argued that his activities over the past three years could not have been carried out publicly if the organisation he claimed to represent had not existed.
“I have been carrying out these activities openly for about three years. That would not have been possible if the organisation did not exist,” he said.
However, the Presidency has distanced itself from Adeyemi and the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, maintaining that no such body exists under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In an earlier disclaimer, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, warned members of the public, diplomatic missions and international organisations against recognising or engaging with the alleged council or any of its representatives.
Adeyemi is currently facing an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
