Gunmen believed to be bandits have abducted a councillor as well as his wives right inside their home at a community in Bauchi State.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the residence of Dan Musa Garin Kwairi, a councillor representing Futuk-west in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state and abducted him alongside his two wives.

The abduction occurred in Futuk community, Gwana District of the local government on Sunday night, as the gunmen went directly to his home, shot into the air and took them away into the forest.

A source close to the local government told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday evening that the abduction of the councillor and his wives has thrown the community into confusion as some residents expressed fears that the gunmen are likely to return.

The abduction has also heightened tension in the local government area as the councillor, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was said to be one of those pencilled in to be the leader of the local government legislative house.

The abduction of the man and his wives has also led to serious concern regarding the spread of banditry and terrorism to Bauchi State and the entire North-Eastern part of the country.

As of the time of this report, the source said the gunmen are yet to establish contact with the family members of the councillor or authorities of the local government regarding ransom payment.
