Some gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday afternoon attacked a town in Zamfara State for over seven hours without any challenge, carting away various items, including cattle, from the residents.
The gunmen on motorcycles stormed Yankuzo Town in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, moving from house to house and stealing items from the residents during the over seven-hour raid.
A source close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday afternoon that the marauders targeted mostly homes where cattle are reared, taking away a number of them. They also collected phones of various brands from the inhabitants.
According to the source, some of the male residents who fled into the bush on sighting the bandits were made distress calls to security agencies but they allegedly did not get any response until after the bandits left.
The residents were quoted as saying that they are currently afraid that the bandits may return to the town and carry out more deadly attacks.
The source further disclosed that the gunmen did not kill or abduct anyone as no one confronted them during the over seven-hour raid on the community.
In another development, it was good news on Tuesday afternoon as men of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (ZCPG) recorded a major success against bandits during an operation in Kwafan Dumfawa forest, Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.
They were said to have engaged the bandits in a gun duel in the forest after the marauders carried out an attack on a village in the local government.
During the gun duel, an unspecified number of the bandits were killed while others were said to have fled with gunshot injuries.
However, two personnel of the outfit sadly lost their lives in the clash and they had been buried according to Islamic rites.
