The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Friday, February 6, rescued an operative of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) who was crushed by a speeding trailer driver along Offin Canal, inward Eko Bridge.
The trailer carrying container struck the male LAWMA operative known simply as Baba Ibeji, while he was discharging his refuse evacuation duties.
It was gathered that the articulated vehicle suffered a brake failure while descending the CMS Bridge connecting Offin Canal to Eko Bridge.
This led to a loss of control, culminating in the truck crushing the LAWMA worker before further ramming into a Toyota Camry on the bridge,
According to reports, the LAWMA operative, who was badly injured, was rescued by personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) stationed within the corridor from beneath the trailer.
The injured man was immediately rushed to the Fuja Hospital by LASTMA personnel and his colleagues, but reports said he was rejected following the severity of his injuries.
The LAWMA operative was subsequently taken to the General Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Speaking on the incident, LASTMA in a statement on Friday said though the driver of the vehicle absconded after seeing the seriousness of the accident, his assistant, popularly known as “motor boy” who was handed over to police officers from the Ebute-Ero Division Headquarters, Lagos Island,.
