The Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, on Monday, February 23, narrated how a man found out through his wife’s phone that all the three children she gave birth to don’t belong to him.
Edafe gave the narration on his verified X handle while underscoring the importance of conducting DNA test by couples after childbirth.
According to him, the incident got to his attention when the man brought the matter to a police station in the command and the police told the man that they are not supposed to be involved in such a matter.
Edafe said the unnamed man, based at a community in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, decided to use his wife’s phone and while he was at it, a message came from a man who asked: “how are my kids?”
Apparently confused and out of shock, the man decided to check more messages on the phone and found out that his wife had amorous chats with more than 10 men.
He said the man is over 50 years old, and based on what he saw, decided to carry out DNA tests on the three children and to his utmost shock and disbelief, none of them belongs to him.
The man became furious on getting home and in order not to carry out murder in the house, he headed to the police station where he was also told that the matter he brought was not a police case.
Edafe however did not disclose the action the man eventually took after leaving the police station, as he added that what happened to the man has made the need for couples to carry out DNA tests on their children imperative.
It will be recalled that a 2025 report by Smart DNA reveals a “paternity crisis” in Nigeria, with 25 per cent of paternity tests returning negative results, indicating that one in four tested men are not the biological fathers of the children.
This high rate, often referred to as paternity fraud, is linked to societal moral decline, increased promiscuity, and, it particularly, affects firstborns.
