A lady who defrauded her victim of the sum of N42.3 million in fake petrol supply deal has been arrested and arraigned at a court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the commission arraigned the lady, Chinwendu Fidelia Ohanebo, before Justice M.A. Lawal of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 12.
She was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining under false pretences and stealing by conversion to the tune of N42.345 million.
One of the charges against her reads: “That you Chinwedu Fidelia Ohanebo, sometime in 2025, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this court, with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N42.345 million from one Musa Muhammed Jidda.
“You did this under the false pretense for the supply of 45 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the rate of N941 per litre and committed an offence of obtaining under false pretences contrary to Sections 1(1)(a) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.”
When the charges were read to her, she pleaded “guilty” to count one and “not guilty” to count two.
In view of her plea, prosecution counsel, H.U. Kofarnaisa, asked the court for an adjournment to commence trial on count two of the charge.
Justice M.A. Lawal adjourned the matter for review of facts on count one and commencement of trial on count two.
Subsequently, the judge ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending the continuation of proceedings.
