In a pathetic case of man’s inhumanity to man, some traffickers lured a 19-year-old girl from Delta State to Ivory Coast for prostitution and removed her womb over her refusal to engage in the shameful act before she was returned to Nigeria.
The Delta State Police Command announced the sad incident through its Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who posted a video of the issue on his verified X handle.
According to the report, the girl, from Udu Local Government Area of the state, was approached by one of her father’s female friends who said they wanted to help her in travelling out of the country in order to get a good job.
However, following the consent of her parents, the girl was taken out of the country but she found herself in Ivory Coast where she was told that the job she would do was prostitution, an offer she was said to have rejected outright.
She reportedly said she wanted to return to Nigeria but the father’s friend said he had no money for the journey and urged her to engage in the shameful act in order to raise the money to return. She was said to have also rejected this.
According to the command, the girl was given some substance to drink and after drinking it, she became unconscious and was reportedly taken to a hospital where she was given an injection that made her to sleep off.
When she woke hours after, she discovered that her tummy had been operated upon and plastered, indicating that her womb had been removed, as those who took her there thought she could continue doing the prostitution after leaving the hospital.
On getting out of the hospital, the girl insisted that she was never going to involve herself in the act and due to the fact that the injury on her did not heal on time, the traffickers brought her back to Lagos and abandoned her there.
She was said to have found her way back to her home and on seeing her condition, her family members reported the matter at the police station.
The Police PRO said when she was taken to the hospital for examination by police operatives, the doctor who examined her said her womb had been removed at the hospital in Ivory Coast.
The Police PRO said two persons had been arrested in connection with the incident and they are assisting the police in their investigations.
During an interrogation in the video, one of those arrested, who gave her name as Blessing, described the victim as “my girl” and said she encouraged her to travel out and she agreed.
She said she collected the sum of N400,000 from the girl’s father for the trip, adding that she was sorry for the trauma she went through.
