Two men who were brothers and said to have killed three members of the same family over disputed parcels of land have been arrested by men of the Anambra State Police Command.
The two brothers, Emmanuel Nnakezie (aged 33 years) and the elder brother, Clement Nnakezie (aged 69), were said to have confessed carrying out the dastardly act during their interrogation by the police operatives.
They reportedly killed three members of the same family whose names were given as Robert Nnabueze, Ikechukwu Obi and Ukamaka Efione, said to be two years old.
It was gathered that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the command arrested the two brothers following intelligence reports regarding the gruesome murder of the three members of the same family whose bodies were discovered in a grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
Acting on the intelligence reports, the operatives trailed and apprehended the men at two locations: Oba and Ukpor.
The command added that during their interrogation, they confessed to the crime and led the police officers to the site where the victims were buried in a shallow grave.
The remains of the victims were thereafter exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that the heinous act resulted from a dispute over the ownership of a bitter kola tree and various parcels of land,” the command said in a statement on Tuesday, May 5.
The two men had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation and they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
