The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two men said to have killed their employer, thrown his body inside a dry well, set it ablaze and sold his property for N3.4 million.
The two men, Yusuf Musa, aged 23 years and Victor Zamani, aged 32 years, were said to have killed the 50-year-old man, identified as Jude Thaddeus, within his residence at Aku Village, Base 5, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that on November 3, one Jennifer Alain of Mpape, Abuja, reported at Aso Pada Division of the command that the victim, her elder brother, was unreachable.
She added that despite several attempts to contact him through his telephone number, an unidentified person consistently answered the calls, raising concerns about his whereabouts.
Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives attached to the division commenced an investigation, which led to the arrest of Yusuf Musa.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men were employed by the deceased about three months ago to look after his domestic animals and had subsequently introduced them to neighbours and other members of the community.
Further findings revealed that the deceased had been missing since October 22, while one of them allegedly took possession of his mobile phone and continued to deceive callers by claiming that the man had travelled.
Investigations further revealed that the men had allegedly been disposing of the deceased’s personal belongings, domestic animals and other properties after killing him.
They were also said to have confessed selling some heavy metals and industrial engines belonging to the deceased for the sum of ₦3.4 million.
During their interrogation, they also disclosed that they dumped the victim’s body in a dry well within his residence and set it ablaze before covering the well with blocks to conceal their criminal activities.
“The decomposed remains were subsequently evacuated to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, for preservation,” the command said in a statement on Friday, November 6.
The command added that investigation has further established the involvement of a third person who is currently at large while efforts have been intensified to track down and apprehend him.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution of all persons found culpable.
