The Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has taken a swipe at a foreign contractor given a contract to build hospital in the state capital, wondering why he started the project with a mortuary.
The governor expressed his anger when he led some officials of the state to inspect the hospital project in Uyo, the state capital.
In a video that has now gone viral, the unnamed foreign contractor was seen showing the governor the layout of the hospital project and telling the governor the extent of work done so far.
He said: “Your Excellency, we have constructed the gate house and we have also completed the mortuary.”
The governor became angry as he said the mortuary had been completed.
“Why did you start mortuary first, why mortuary? I said build hospital, you went to start with mortuary. Don’t say that kind of a thing to my people. This is not a good thing for you to do,” the angry governor told the contractor.
He told everyone at the site of the project that he cannot imagine going to his people and informing them that he had just built a mortuary for them, a comment that made those at the sight roar into laughter.
The governor therefore urged the contractor to start work on the main hospital as soon as possible.
