Former Nigeria international, Dominic Iorfa, has tipped Tolu Arokodare to emulate Victor Osimhen if his proposed transfer to Napoli materialises this summer.
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Iorfa described Napoli as an ideal destination for the 24-year-old Genk striker, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Serie A giants in recent weeks.
Napoli are reportedly in the market for a new striker following Romelu Lukaku’s injury setback, with Arokodare emerging as a serious target. Genk are believed to value the forward at between €20–25 million, and talks have already been held with his representatives.
“Tolu [Arokodare] has been linked with a lot of clubs this summer, but this Napoli one looks more serious than the rest,” Iorfa said. “It’s unfortunate what happened to Lukaku, but Napoli have done their homework. Tolu fits the profile. They are both big, strong, and powerful strikers.”
Although Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund remains Napoli’s preferred choice, reports in Italy and Nigeria suggest that Arokodare is viewed as a strong alternative should negotiations elsewhere stall.
Iorfa, who represented the Super Eagles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, said a successful move to Naples could be a turning point in Arokodare’s career.
“It also makes for an interesting story. Victor Osimhen used to be Napoli’s main man, and Tolu could become the next Nigerian to lead their attack if this deal goes through,” he said. “I also heard Victor Boniface might be heading to AC Milan. If both transfers come off, it will be fantastic for Nigerian football.”
Since joining Genk in January 2023, Arokodare has steadily built his reputation in Belgium with a mix of physical strength and goals. His form has already drawn interest from AC Milan and Atalanta earlier this summer, but Napoli are currently pushing hardest for his signature.
