An Investigating Police Officer from the Imo State Police Command is currently in trouble after he was alleged to have demanded the sum of N100,000 from the family of a 15-year-old rape victim when they came to the station to report the matter.

In fact, the state police command has ordered investigation into the allegation after the matter became public through a video that went viral regarding the incident.

In the video, a lady said the victim, whom she described as her younger sister, travelled to the state for Christmas celebrations and was raped by a man she described as a neighbour of their parents who forced his way into their home when the parents were not around, brandishing a knife.

The lady added that when they went to one of the police stations to report the matter, the IPO, in the presence of other officers, allegedly asked for N100,000 before her statement would be taken, saying the family needs justice to be served.

However, reacting to the viral video, the state police command said on Saturday that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Consequently, the CP has also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP X-Squad in the command to identify the IPO and other police officers involved in the shameful act and and move them to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for necessary disciplinary actions.
