Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has weighed in on the recent altercation involving Air Peace and Senator Adams Oshiomhole at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, calling for calm and a thorough investigation into the matter.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, June 11,2025 reportedly involved a disagreement between Senator Oshiomhole and staff of Nigeria’s leading domestic carrier, Air Peace, over flight boarding and scheduling issues. While details of the confrontation remain unclear, both parties have since issued conflicting public statements, escalating tensions.
In an official statement released by the Ministry, Keyamo confirmed that he has been in direct contact with both the airline and the former Edo State Governor since the morning of the incident. He urged aviation agencies under his ministry to refrain from making premature conclusions, citing the legal principle of “audi alteram partem” — the right to a fair hearing.
“I have been in touch with both parties since the incident occurred,” Keyamo said. “I also directed aviation agencies to exercise restraint and not jump to conclusions, in line with the long-established principle of hearing all sides before making a judgment.”
Amid rising public interest and media speculation, the minister appealed to both sides to refrain from further public accusations. He has also mandated the relevant aviation bodies to investigate the case thoroughly and present findings to his office.
“This will allow us to address the matter responsibly and establish clearer guidelines to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he added.
The incident has sparked debate on social media and in aviation circles about the conduct of VIPs and airline staff, as well as the need for improved communication and transparency in airline operations.
