A married man, Oyeniyi Oyedepo has petitioned a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his 14- year old marriage to his wife, Iyabo Oyedepo.

He accused his wife of maltreatment and physical molestation. In his petition, he claims his wife would always slap him anytime he attempts to discipline their children.

The wife however, did not dispute the claims, instead saying she slaps him because he often beat her first.

Oyedepo on the other hand said his wife is disobedient and rude, “whenever my children misbehave and I try to beat them, she becomes offended and slaps me.”

Iyabo did not object to the request for divorce, saying her husband is clumsy and dirty. She also said he was a womanizer. “Yes I slapped him, but it was because he beats me up and told me to leave his house.”

The president of the court however noted that the marriage could still be salvaged. So he invited the families of both couple and adjourned the matter till April 6th for continuation of the matter.
