A mechanic who was arrested after stealing a car brought to him for repair by a customer has told men of the Niger State Police Command that he sold the vehicle in parts.
The state police command announced the arrest in a statement on Sunday, April 5, saying the mechanic, Suleiman Anaba, aged 32 years, later took the operatives to where he kept the car and what remains of the car was recovered.
It was gathered that a complaint was lodged at the Mashegu Divisional Headquarters of the command by the owner of the Toyota Corolla car who said he took the car to the mechanic for repair and after one week, he could not see it there.
Following the complaint lodged, operatives of the police station swung into action and after a few days of manhunt, arrested the mechanic.
During his interrogation, he was said to have confessed that he stole the car and kept it somewhere in Kotangora where he was selling it in parts.
He led the operatives to Kotangora where the car was recovered with many of its parts already sold to willing buyers.
He has given more useful information to the police operatives while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups including armed robbers, cultists, bandits, terrorists, among others, terrorising residents of some parts of the state. Some of those arrested had been charged to courts in the state.
