Vice-Presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, Peter Obi believes that states should pay their workers based on their varying realities.

In an interview on New Year’s Day the former governor expressed his views on the issue of minimum wage saying it doesn’t have to be the same for all states in federation.

His views on the minimum wage are the same he held as governor in Anambra state. “I don’t believe that somebody in Lagos should earn the same thing as somebody who is in, maybe, Anambra State or somebody in Maiduguri.”

Obi however stated that it was important to have a federal minimum wage which is the product of proper talks with Labour.

On stating an exact figure to determine minimum wage, Peter Obi has this to say; “I can tell you this – you know what we are saying here – I am sure we will be able to come out with what is acceptable because I know we will sit down and discuss this constructively with the labour.”
