A motoring on top speed was said to have lost control of the vehicle, crushing a police officer riding motorcycle and a scavenger to death on Lagos highway on Wednesday, December 3.
The accident occurred at Ilubirin end of the Third Mainland Bridge inward Simpson, Lagos Island, when the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control and veered off his lane, crushing both a scavenger and a police officer who was on a motorcycle. The impact of the accident led to their instant death.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), its personnel stationed around the Ilubirin axis arrived at the scene, cordoned off the accident zone to ensure safety and prevent further crashes.
In the course of their response, the LASTMA officers were said to have apprehended the driver who attempted to flee the scene and promptly handed him over to policemen from the Adeniji Adele Divisional Headquarters who also came to the scene after receiving a distress call.
LASTMA wrote: “The accidented vehicle was evacuated by LASTMA operatives to forestall secondary accidents and restore normalcy to traffic flow in the corridor.”
