For 98 days, a young man, known simply as Hamisu from Mashaya community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, lived through what no family should face following the gruesome and excruciating times he spent in the den of bandits.
According to a competent source close to the community, more than three months ago, armed bandits stormed their home, abducted him, his brother and his brother’s wife.
Weeks turned into months for him and other abducted family members. However, his brother escaped from the den of the marauders but sadly, his brother’s wife did not make it as she died in the forest while Hamisu’s fate remained hanging between life and death.
Then on Wednesday morning in Marnona town, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, a driver pulled up with a weak, trembling man in his vehicle. It was Hamisu alive after nearly four months in captivity, exhausted and struggling with his health, but finally back among the his people.
The source disclosed that he was able to flee with all that remained in his strength before he saw the motorist who helped him after hearing his predicament.
The news of his escape spread through the village like wildfire: a rare moment of relief mixed with deep grief and unanswered questions. He was immediately taken to a local clinic where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West has been under constant attacks by terrorists and bandits who unleash terror on various communities, killing some and abducting others.
