Hundreds of motorists and passengers are currently stranded on the ever-busy Abuja-Lokoja highway, with some saying they have been in the sorry situation since Thursday evening.
Abuja-Lokoja highway is a major highway artery that connects the Northern part of the country with the Southern part.
It was gathered that the gridlock that made the travellers stranded was as a result of various bad portions along the highway as well as accidents involving mostly articulated vehicles, popularly known as trailers.
Some of the stranded travellers, who lamented their situation, said they were coming from the North, including Kaduna, Jos, Bauchi and were heading to places such as Owerri, Enugu, Osogbo, among others in the South and they have been on the same spot since Thursday evening.
Some commercial motorcycle riders in various communities along the highway were said to have cashed in on the situation picking some of the passengers who dropped from their vehicles and taking them away from the gridlock in order to get other vehicles to their destinations.
For example, it was gathered that passengers heading across the River Niger Bridge from Lokoja were charged N6000 by the commercial motorcycle riders. The same amount was charged those coming from Abuja for the trip across the bridge.
However, officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, some security agencies and other officials in Kogi State are working round the clock to bring the situation under control.
