Students who have completed their industrial training programmes and have not been paid their Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) allowance now have the opportunity to lodge their complaints.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said on Thursday, July 2, that it has set up a portal for students who are in this category.
Students, especially in polytechnics and other institutions of higher learning, are mandated to undergo trainings at organisations ranging from six months to one year or even more, depending on the courses and at the end of the programme, they are expected to receive what is called SIWES allowance.
However, information from students who went through the IT programme indicated that many of them who did the programme even years ago have not been paid the allowance up till now.
Apparently following the deluge of complaints received, NANS said it had launched what it described as “NANS ITF SIWES payment compilation portal” for the students who have completed their scheme but are yet to receive their SIWES allowance.
According to the students body in a statement on Thursday, while there are claims that beneficiaries have been paid, many students said otherwise, adding that the verification portal had therefore been established to ascertain the true position of things and ensure that affected students receive the payments due to them.
“Therefore, students who have completed their Industrial Training Scheme and are yet to receive their SIWES allowance are hereby advised to visit the portal and submit the required information,” it said.
