Restoration of power supply from the national grid is underway a few hours after the grid suffered its second collapse in 2026, four days after the first collapse in the year.
This was disclosed in a notice by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) posted on its official X handle and retweeted by the Nigeria National Grid page on Tuesday, January 27.
The notice, titled ‘Power Update,’ read, “Dear valued customer, we are pleased to inform you that power restoration from the grid has resumed, though with limited allocation.
“Please be patient as our feeders are gradually being restored.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
The national grid suffered its second system collapse in 2026 on Tuesday morning, triggering a nationwide blackout.
According to information from the Nigeria National Grid on its X handle, load allocation to all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to zero megawatts as of 10:54 a.m.
The data showed that the affected DisCos as of 27 January were Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola.
This indicates that all the listed DisCos were without power supply at the time of the collapse.
Another update from the national grid X handle showed DisCo load as of 2:31 p.m., indicating that Kano DisCo had 102 megawatts (MW), Kaduna DisCo recorded 80 MW, Benin DisCo got 65 MW, and Ibadan DisCo had 50 MW.
It also showed that Ikeja DisCo recorded 40 MW, Eko DisCo 27 MW, Abuja DisCo 27 MW, and Enugu DisCo 20 MW. In contrast, Jos, Port Harcourt, and Yola DisCos had zero megawatts of power supply.
Recall that Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed on Friday, January 23, the first system failure recorded in 2026, causing a nationwide blackout.
According to data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), all 23 power generation plants connected to the grid reportedly lost output, resulting in electricity generation dropping to zero megawatts (MW) during the incident.
