A man that has just been recruited as a forest guard has been apprehended by security operatives after he was found to have supplied ammunition to bandits at a forest in Katsina State.
The newly-recruited guard, Zahraddin Abdullahi Karadua, was among those trained and later employed by the state government to guard the various forests in the state in order to check the activities of bandits.
However, rather than carrying out the duties assigned to him, he was said to have supplied ammunition to the bandits operating at one of the forests in the Matazu Local Government Area of the state.
A source in the know of the development disclosed on Tuesday, September 29, that during his interrogation, he gave details of how he collected the ammunition from a man he named as Muhammadu in Kano, took it to Karadua and handed it to a woman he also identified as Sahiba which she later took to a the bandits camp near Maharba village.
According to the source, the woman has also been arrested and she was said to have admitted that she received the ammunition from the forest guard which she took to the bandits camp after receiving payment.
Both of them are currently undergoing more interrogation.
In another development, the past few days have seen continued pressure on kidnapping networks.
For example, on September 21, according to military sources, security forces disrupted a planned mass abduction at Gidan Iyado in Bakori Local Government Area of the state, killing 18 bandits and recovering weapons and other items.
Four days later, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued 14 kidnapped residents comprising 12 men and two women in Faskari Local Government Area.
Their captors reportedly abandoned them after sighting the advancing troops. Three AK-47 rifles, 30 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle were also recovered during the operation.
