A Nigerian resident in Liberia on Tuesday, September 1, gave details of how he landed in trouble in Liberia over inability of the country’s police officers to differentiate between citizenship identity cards and residents identity cards.
The man, Emmanuel Osaro, gave the details on his X handle, saying he landed in trouble when he went to do a clearance at the Liberian Police Headquarters in Monrovia and the officers there demanded for his documents.
He added that if not for his boss who informed the police officers about the difference between the two ID cards, he would have landed in detention or would have even been charged to court.
He wrote: “I went to do my police clearance at the Liberian Police Headquarters, they asked for my documents, I quickly brought out my resident permit,work permit and others.
“The next thing I heard was who gave me the Liberian citizenship ID card. I told them it was issued to me by my employer. The next statement was that I should sit on the floor and pull off my sneakers.
“I was shocked and asked them regarding what they said. Then one of them shouted, saying I was a fraudster, ordering me to sit on the floor. I was angry and asked them what was my crime?
“Did you know these guys can’t differentiate between resident ID card and citizenship ID card?
“After I put a call to my boss and told him about my situation, he had to call the officers so as to explain these things for them to be able to understand the differences between the two.
“Next thing I heard was ‘we are sorry sir.’ These guys wanted to detain me if I did not respond the way I responded.
“My prayers actually worked this morning. Glory be to God.”
