Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that no administration, regardless of how long it remains in office, can completely resolve all of Nigeria’s challenges.
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike emphasized the limitations of governance, while defending the development approach of the current administration.
“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” Wike told journalists.
The minister, however, commended the Tinubu-led administration for targeting projects and policies that he said directly impact the daily lives of FCT residents. According to him, the government is focused on addressing issues that can make tangible improvements in the short and medium term.
“But government is solving problems that at least will help to improve the lives of people,” he added.
Addressing public concerns over the lack of formal commissioning ceremonies for some completed projects, Wike explained that such events are typically reserved for large-scale infrastructure projects with significant capital investment.
“It’s not possible for us to commission every project,” he said. “We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects – ones where billions of naira have been spent – and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”
Wike urged members of the media to engage more directly with the administration’s work by visiting completed and ongoing project sites with Mandate Secretaries, particularly in key sectors like education and social development.
“We’re not saying we’ve done everything,” he said, “but we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance.”
