The Oyo State government on Saturday, June 27, lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The government had in the first instance imposed a 16-hour curfew on the affected communities as part of measures to strengthen security and facilitate efforts by security agencies. The restriction was subsequently extended by an additional one day on Thursday.
Announcing the development in a statement on Saturday, Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said residents of the affected local government areas could now resume their normal activities.
He commended residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding throughout the period of the curfew.
Oyelade assured the public that the government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, adding that security agencies are closely monitoring the situation to ensure lasting peace and security.
He further stated that efforts are ongoing to bring the kidnapping incident to a successful conclusion and restore normalcy across the affected communities.
