No fewer than 60 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, have been impounded by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) over failure to comply with the state’s QR code jacket policy.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 18, by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.
The statement said the motorcycles were impounded during an enforcement exercise, which began on Tuesday, March 17, and was carried out in parts of Ibadan, including Mokola, Gate Bus Stop, Idi-Ape and Iwo Road.
According to the statement, the exercise was aimed at strengthening regulation, improving security and ensuring accountability among commercial motorcycle operators.
The Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.), while speaking during the exercise, condemned the continued non-compliance by some operators despite repeated warnings.
Adesagba added that the agency would sustain the enforcement until full compliance is achieved.
On his part, the General Manager of the agency, Adeoye Adekola, warned operators against the use of fake QR code jackets, urging them to register through approved government channels.
The agency assured residents that the enforcement would be extended to other parts of the state as part of efforts to improve safety and order on the roads.
Recall that on June 28, 2025, the Oyo State government announced the immediate commencement of the enforcement of the jacket for tricyclists and motorcyclists in the state.
Adesagba said the state would bar all commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators without the jacket from operating across the state.
