An Islamic and Quranic scholar who was abducted a few months ago at a community in Katsina State has died in captivity.

The man, Malam Magaji Dantudu, was said to have been abducted by bandits in February this year at his residence in Maska, Funtua Local Government Area of the state.

However, after spending about two months with the bandits, his body was found dumped on a road in the area, indicating that the bandits left the body on the road after they discovered that he had died.

A source close to the state told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday night that following the discovery of the body, a call was made to the police who evacuated the body from the road and after necessary procedures, handed the remains over to the family.

The source said the man was buried in accordance with the Islamic rites on Thursday afternoon.

In another development, on Wednesday, residents of Achida community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State mounted a coordinated resistance against bandits who attacked their community.

They were said to have confronted them directly in a rare show of collective self-defence.

The villagers and their vigilante group successfully repelled the assailants and there was reported that one of the bandits was killed while others fled with injuries.
