First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called on the National Assembly to give formal recognition to the Office of the First Lady at federal and state levels, similar to the U.S. model.
Speaking after the second quarterly meeting with Wives of State Governors and Coordinators of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) on Monday, June 23, 2025, Mrs. Tinubu said such legal backing would amplify humanitarian work led by First Ladies.
“We are wives. We want to see our husbands succeed,” she said. “We want to help as much as we can.”
Mrs. Tinubu highlighted RHI’s progress, including ₦1 million scholarships for 47 indigent students, while noting that limited funding hampers broader reach. She appealed for more resources to deepen impact: “We’re helping one person at a time with what we can afford.”
She also condemned recent attacks in Borno and Plateau states, calling them “evil” and urging women to pray for national peace.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Tinubu announced the “Flow With Confidence” campaign, which will deliver 10,000 cartons of sanitary towels per state, targeting rural adolescent girls. She also revealed plans to launch the RHI Environment Club/Society to promote environmental consciousness among youth.
The meeting, held at the State House, was attended by the Wife of the Vice President, Wife of the Speaker, Wife of the Deputy Senate President, and 24 State First Ladies.
“Our duty is to harness Nigeria’s resources wisely and compassionately,” she said.
