A security guard who shot a resident at a community in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for coming out of his resident has been arrested by men of the state police command.
The 49-year-old security guard, Felix Oladapo, was arrested after shooting the resident at Zion Estate, Yakoya area of Elewuro, Akobo, while the police operatives recovered four locally-made guns and a machete from his duty post.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, when the resident, identified as Bolaji Oladipupo, came out of his residence to pump water and heard the sound of a siren around his house.
According to preliminary investigation by the police, the man proceeded outside his house to ascertain the source of the noise but was confronted by the security guard.
The victim stated that he identified himself as a resident of the house but the security guard went ahead to shoot him apparently during a disagreement between them.
The report of the shooting was reported at the police station and operatives from Akobo Divisional Headquarters promptly visited the scene and arrested the security guard.
“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to having shot at the victim. A search of his duty post consequently led to the recovery of two serviceable locally made single-barrelled guns, two unserviceable locally made single-barrelled guns and one machete, which have been secured as exhibits,” the command said in a statement on Wednesday.
The command added that the resident is currently receiving medical attention while investigators are intensifying efforts to unravel the circumstances and mystery surrounding the shooting, particularly what transpired immediately before the incident and the circumstances leading to the use of the firearm.
