Any tricycle rider in Kano State found to be carrying ladies as “attachments” will henceforth have himself to blame as the Sharia Commission in the state has banned the practice.
“Attachment” in the local parlance is the process in which commercial tricycle riders carry female passengers on the sides of their tricycles for trips.
The commission, while frowning on this, described it as contrary to Islamic teachings because of the physical contact involved between the ladies and the male riders.
The directive to discontinue the habit was announced by the ‘Second Commissioner’ of the commission, Sheikh Ali Danabba, during a meeting with the leadership of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association (BOTORA).
The meeting also focused on strengthening collaboration to improve orderliness and professionalism in the commercial tricycle transport sector across Kano State.
He stated during the meeting that riders must immediately stop carrying female passengers on either side of their tricycles under the “Attachment” arrangement.
He noted that the commission had found out that tricycles are being used for child abduction, trafficking of illicit drugs, among other vices,
The commissioner urged commercial tricycle riders to comply with the directive and support efforts aimed at promoting moral values and public order in the state.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of BOTORA pledged the association’s full cooperation with the Sharia Commission in promoting public safety, social order and the overall development of Kano State.
