A thief who used a machete to kill a 62-year-old farmer after he was caught attempting to steal a bunch of plantains in his farm has been arrested by men of the Ekiti State Police Command.
The tragic incident occurred last Sunday in Ikoro, close to Okemesi when the farmer, Mr Adeniyi Oladunjoye, popularly known as Elewe Omo, caught the matchn, simply known as Thomas, stealing a bunch of plantains.
It was gathered that when the thief was challenged by him, he used the machete in his hand to attack the farmer which led to his death.
According to reports on Tuesday, May 12, some farmers who witnessed the attack made a distress call to men of the South West security network, Amotekun, who raced to the scene, apprehended the man and eventually handed him to men of the Okemesi Divisional Headquarters of the state police command.
The police operatives have removed the body of the elderly man from the farm and deposited it at the mortuary while the thief has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation into his nefarious activities.
