Three policemen from the Ekiti State command who were seen in a video that went viral beating up a motorcycle rider after he insulted them when they asked him to produce the documents of the bike have been identified, detained and are to face an orderly room trial.
The state police command announced the development in a statement on Monday, saying by descending on the rider and assaulting him, the officers have a case to answer.
According to reports, the police officers assaulted the man, identified as Damilola Oluwaseun, in front of Osi-Ekiti Police Outpost after he was intercepted by the officers while riding an unregistered motorcycle with no valid papers.
The report further stated that due to his inability to present the papers of the bike,the officers impounded it and asked him to go bring the papers since he claimed he left them at home.
This did not go down well with him and he was said to have become unruly and violent, allegedly insulted and assaulted one of the officers.
Other officers were said to have become angry and descended on the man as seen in the viral video, beating his blue black’
However, while reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Sunday Abutu, said the police officers involved had been identified and are to face disciplinary actions.
“The Commissioner of Police has therefore directed that the incident be thoroughly investigated, officers who defaulted will be made to undergo disciplinary actions.”
