The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Bola Tinubu administration for what it describes as ineffective policies that have failed to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s spokesperson, said there is a widening gap between the government’s promises and the daily realities faced by citizens. He accused officials of living in luxury while asking Nigerians to endure growing economic hardship.
“The policies of this government have not worked,” Abdullahi said. “The people are suffering, but government officials have convoys that are getting longer; they are living in opulence, while you say people should continue to suffer.”
He said while the administration continues to promote its economic reforms, there’s little evidence of how they are positively impacting the average Nigerian.
Abdullahi also criticised the government’s failure to provide a clear timeline for when Nigerians can expect relief from hardship, or what benefits are meant to come from the sacrifices they’re being asked to make.
“If you know the people are going to suffer as a result of these policies and you can’t mitigate it, then at least explain the reward and when it will come,” he said.
Questioning the impact of government spending, he added, “The money has gone to the states, but how does that affect the life of someone paying ₦1,000 for petrol?”
He concluded by stressing the need for visible, direct benefits like affordable healthcare to justify the rising costs Nigerians are bearing.
