Two men who organised a fake kidnapping and demanded the sum of N4 million ransom at a community in Edo State have been arrested by men of the state police command.
The two men, Lucky Alabi, aged 48 years and Taiye Enahoro, aged 37 years, both of Uneme Akpama community, were arrested on June 26 around 10:30 a.m. by the operatives attached to the Igarra Divisional Headquarters of the command.
It was gathered that the two of them faked the kidnapping of Lucky Alabi at a hideout and made calls to his family for the payment of ransom.
According to the command in a statement on Sunday, June 28, the family informed the police about the development and while acting on credible intelligence and through diligent investigative efforts, police operatives uncovered the deception and arrested both men.
Preliminary investigation by the operatives revealed that the kidnapping plan was executed on June 23 when Taiye Enahoro placed several telephone calls to relatives of Lucky Alabi, falsely claiming that Alabi had been kidnapped and demanding the sum of N4 million as ransom for his release.
Also during their interrogation, the two men confessed to their respective roles in the staged kidnapping and they had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
They are also expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
