Two terrorists were shot dead while others escaped with gunshot wounds when men of the Nigerian Army engaged them in a gun duel at a forest in Ondo State.
Troops of 32 Artillery Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB), Auga, killed the two terrorists during a tactical operation conducted at the forest along the Akunu-Auga road on Saturday, February 14.
It was gathered that the troops, while acting on intelligence reports regarding the movement of the suspected criminals within the area, swiftly mobilised and intercepted them.
The ensuing contact with the armed elements led to a gun duel where the troops superior fire power resulted in the killing of the two terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
After the encounter with the terrorists, items recovered included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, torchlight, hard drugs, charms, the sum of ₦39,000, among other personal effects.
The Nigerian Army said in a statement on Monday, February 16, regarding the matter that its men are currently combing the forests in order to smoke out the fleeing terrorists.
