The Students Union of the University of Abuja has elected a female student as its president, becoming the first-ever lady to lead the union since the inception of the university.
The lady, Eyamu Oghenenyerovwo Peculiar, a 300-level student in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, was elected during the election conducted through a digital voting platform for the 2025/2026 academic session.
She was said to have contested against five male students and she ran on the campaign slogan, “Everything Peculiar, Nothing Is Ordinary.”
While giving her victory speech, she expressed her appreciation to God and fellow students for believing in her and giving her their mandate.
Peculiar said: “I feel grateful to God and sincerely thankful to every student who believed in my vision. Being the first elected female SUG President is not just a personal achievement; it is a victory for every young woman who has dared to dream.
“It is also for every student who believes leadership should be based on competence, character and service, not gender.”
