The sister of a man that was abducted about six months ago by the Islamic insurgents, Boko Haram, has raised the alarm, saying the dreaded group has refused to release her brother despite paying N30 million as ransom.
The woman, Hajiya Kulu Niworo, raised the alarm over her brother, Alhassan Bawa Niworo, former Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
It was gathered that the 70-year-old Alhassan Niworo was kidnapped alongside other travellers on Monday, September 29, 2025 on the new Bussa-Mokwa road while travelling to Minna, the Niger State capital.
After his abduction, the family was said to have sold his farm produce, obtained loans and solicited funds from friends in order to meet the demands of the terrorists regarding the ransom and after payment of N30 million, the terrorists refused to release him, requesting for additional N150 million.
A source who is in the know of what the family is going through presently told Impact Nigeria News Online on Thursday night that the man’s younger sister made a passionate appeal to the terrorists to release her brother.
She was said to have disclosed that every time the terrorists called the family, they always pleaded with them, but despite their pleas, they would beat him, put knife to his throat, threatening to kill him.
She therefore said there is no way the family could raise another N150 million after they had paid N30 million as ransom.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-East, has been under the grips of Boko Haram terrorists who launch attacks on various communities, killing people and abducting others.
