A 36-year-old woman, Ms. Grace Aniekuoku, has been rescued by officers of the FCT Police Command after allegedly being held in chains by her brother for more than 16 months under disturbing conditions.
According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, the police received a distress report on May 12 concerning the woman’s welfare. In response, detectives from the Katampe Division were immediately deployed to investigate the situation.
Upon arriving at the residence, officers reportedly encountered resistance from the suspect, Mr. Chinedu Aniekuoko, who allegedly denied them access to the area where his sister was being kept. Despite the obstruction, the police gained entry and discovered Grace chained inside a room. Authorities said she was severely malnourished, living in unsanitary conditions, and surrounded by her own waste.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the victim was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment. She is currently receiving care and support.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Grace’s son had allegedly been taken away to an unknown location about two years ago. Police believe she was subsequently confined to prevent her from questioning or seeking information about her child’s whereabouts.
As Grace continues her recovery, law enforcement authorities have launched efforts to locate and rescue her missing son. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face prosecution once investigations are completed.
