A 69 year-old grandmother, Mrs Kate Bosede Akomolafe, was among the over 5,000 students who were matriculated into the Distance Learning Centre of the University of Ibadan for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
The newly-admitted student of Social Work is presently a pig farmer who retired years ago from RT Briscoe as a Data Processing Officer. She is pursuing the four-year course degree.
After R T Briscoe, she went into the baking flour business as a distributor of the products of the Nigerian Eagle Flour Mills.
Born on December 22, 1956, Mrs Akomolafe obtained her West African School Certificate in 1976 from Government Secondary School, Creek Road, Port Harcourt but went back to sit for both the WASSCE and NECO last year in order to acquire enough credits to get a university admission and obtain a Bachelor’s degree.
According to a statement by the University of Ibadan, she opted for Social Work to enable her to broaden her knowledge and to successfully manage her Non-Government Organisation, Christ’s Care for the Widow.
Mrs Akomolafe, a mother of four successful children and a grandmother, was quoted as saying she is determined to put in her best and aspires to obtain a First Class at the end of her programme.
