President Bola Tinubu has pledged to streamline bureaucratic hurdles and fast-track agreements between Nigeria and Brazil in key sectors including trade, aviation, energy transition, and agriculture.
Tinubu made the commitment during a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at Copacabana Forte.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms are aimed at enhancing global competitiveness -particularly in agriculture, where the country holds a comparative advantage. He cited bureaucracy as a major factor slowing down the sector’s growth and promised to eliminate bottlenecks hindering food sovereignty and livestock production.
Tinubu praised Brazil’s global leadership in food and agricultural production and called for strengthened cooperation in livestock, poultry, fisheries, and Nigeria’s emerging blue economy. He also urged for deeper subnational collaboration to boost food and animal production across Nigeria.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to reviving bilateral agreements. Silva assured that all pending agreements and MOUs would be regularized and signed during Tinubu’s next official visit to Brazil. This follows recent progress on a bilateral air service agreement (BASA), where a joint team was set up in May to finalize a direct flight deal between both countries.
