The former Defence spokesman, Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was abducted alongside his wife, has died in the den of his abductors.
The former senior military officer was kidnapped alongside his wife around the Matazu area of the state on May 30 while travelling to attend a wedding ceremony.
The Katsina State government announced the death of the retired General in a statement on Saturday, June 13, saying he died of complications from diabetes and hypertension in the hands of his abductors.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the state government and various security to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the state government said.
The government described the abduction and subsequent death of the retired General as a significant loss to his family, Katsina State and the nation at large.
However, the state government noted that security operatives are yet to recover his body as efforts anre ongoing to locate the remains.
