Abimbola Olawuyi, the widow of renowned investigative broadcaster and journalist Kolawole Olawuyi, has died after a brief illness, leaving her family and loved ones in mourning more than 20 years after the death of her husband.
According to PM News, Abimbola passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026. A family member who confirmed the development described her as a devoted mother and the pillar that held the family together following the death of Kola Olawuyi.
After losing her husband, Abimbola dedicated her life to raising their four children, ensuring they remained united despite the challenges of growing up without their father. Family members said she took on the enormous responsibility of caring for the household and preserving her husband’s legacy.
“Abimbola has been a pillar of strength for the family. Her death is really painful. She has been taking care of the family and the four children left by her husband, Kola Olawuyi, and now the children are orphans. Only God knows what lies ahead for them. I am deeply pained,” a family member said.
The family said funeral and burial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Kola Olawuyi was one of Nigeria’s most respected investigative broadcasters, particularly in the Southwest. He became a household name through his popular radio and television programmes, Iriri Aye (“Experiences of Life”) and Nnkan Nbe, which focused on exposing crime, ritual killings, fraud, and other social vices. His fearless style of investigative journalism earned him widespread recognition and admiration.
Abimbola’s passing marks another painful chapter for the Olawuyi family, with relatives and well-wishers remembering her resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her children in the years following her husband’s death.
